Gnabry, who left Arsenal in the summer, scored a hat-trick on his senior debut for Germany as Joachim Low’s side demolished San Marino on Friday night, and the 21-year-old was quick to praise the Gunners for playing a major part in his development.
As reported by the London Evening Standard, Gnabry said: “Without being in England, I would not be the player I am now. There was Arsenal’s quick playing style, for example, which I learned.
“When you are a young player and you get to train with such top players as there are at Arsenal for three years then of course you take something away with you and it improves you.
“That was definitely the case with me. I probably would not be here now if I had not been in England.”
Arsenal allowed Gnabry to depart as they couldn’t guarantee the prospect regular game time with the likes of Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alex Iwobi ahead of him in the pecking order at the club.
However, Gnabry’s form this campaign indicates that letting him go could prove to be a mistake, with the starlet having scored four goals in nine Bundesliga appearances.
