Relive Cristiano Ronaldo’s record breaking day

In case you missed it over the festive weekend, Cristiano Ronaldo powered Real Madrid to victory and in the process set yet another incredible record. The Portuguese has shattered numerous achievements over the course of his career, however the latest is mind-blowing to say the least.
Cristiano’s 17th minute equalizer only marked the first of the game for the superstar and Real Madrid, but the goal gave the Portuguese the right to boast that he’s scored against every team he’s played against in La Liga. Throughout Cristiano’s eight year stay in Spain, not a single team that’s stepped on the pitch with the record breaker has been able to concoct a plan to stop him. That’s saying something considering 31 different La Liga teams have graced the pitch with the exceptional talent.
And much like his first league goal back in 2009, Saturday’s goal against Alavés came from the penalty spot.
It was a goal Real Madrid needed and certainly one that was more important for Cristiano himself. The converted penalty broke the Portuguese’s scoring drought and gave the Spanish side some footing in a match against a team that entered the afternoon unbeaten at home.
Ultimately, one led to two as Cristiano showed off his renowned ability to strike from distance. His venomous shot fiercely looped over the head of Pacheco and into the corner of the net. The Portuguese looked at ease running between two defenders before shielding off one in order to strike with his right foot.
However, two wasn’t enough for Real Madrid’s No. 7. After Marcelo’s offensive contributions stood out last week, the defender linked up effortlessly again with his long-time teammate to secure the 4-1 rout over Alavés. Seemingly, Cristiano’s presence on the pitch is just too much as defenders constantly lose the attacker.
The opportunity to snuff out the play presented itself as soon as Mateo Kovacic broke into the attacking third. Yet, the Alavés defenders slacked off and allowed arguably the world’s best player to operate in space on the left flank. Once Cristiano connected with Marcelo on the first pass, there was only ever going to be one result.
