Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, yesterday disclosed that his emergence as the state executive saved many teachers from being sacked by the administration of his predecessor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
He said Teachers’ Development Need Assessment (TDNA) initiated by the former governor was designed to sack many teachers.
Fayemi’s government had introduced TDNA to test teachers’ competency, which the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) rejected over the suspicion that it was intended to purge the system of many perceived incompetent teachers.
Speaking at the fifth quadrennial state delegates conference in Ado
Ekiti, Fayose said his government would continue to defend the interests of teachers, even after leaving office.
He stated: “I want to say that no government will ever come to Ekiti and treat teachers unjustly and that is where you will continue to need me even after leaving office. Because, if any government comes after me and try to treat you badly, I will join you to fight that administration.
“If not for God that brought me, they would have sacked many of you.”
Meanwhile, due to the failure of the police to produce the Chairman of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Jide Awe and three other persons for trial, the High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti yesterday struck out the murder charge against them.
Awe, the first defendant in the suit was accused of complicity in the murder of Murphy Jeje and attempted murder of Mrs. Juliana Adewunmi in Erijiyan Ekiti on March 31, 2013.
Justice Bamidele Omotoso of High Court 7 struck out the case.
Other defendants in the murder case are John Faboro Ojo (2nd), Aniramu Basiru (3rd), Falayi Busuyi (4th), Owonifari Sefiu (5th) and Adenijo Sola (6th).
