Tottenham’s Premier League clash against Arsenal on Sunday could prove to be Spurs’ toughest test of the season so far as they take their unbeaten record to the Emirates.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side face Bayer Leverkusen in their latest Champions League fixture on Wednesday evening but, while it’s an important game, they will need to have one eye on their clash against Arsenal just four days later.
Tottenham were knocked out of the Premier League’s top four on Sunday afternoon when Chelsea recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory over West Ham.
Spurs are in danger of slipping even further behind if they don’t record a victory against Arsenal and that should be their main priority despite having to contend with a tough European tie.
Tottenham’s inability to break down Leicester’s defence meant they had to settle for their fourth draw in five games while Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea all progressed with three points.
This weekend’s game against Arsenal is not only a chance to take home the bragging rights in the local north London derby, but it could signify whether Spurs have what it takes to win the league.
They have a good record against their rivals and haven’t lost in the Premier League to them since Pochettino took over as manager.
However, Arsenal are currently in the better form and could put space between the two sides with a home win.
Gunners fans will be keeping an eye on the news this week as Harry Kane is rumoured to be back in contention for the game, and Spurs’ talisman could be the difference-maker if he’s fit to start.
Arsenal also have a European tie this week but after netting six past Ludogorets in their last head-to-head, they will probably rest some of their stars ahead of the weekend’s fixture.
Aaron Ramsey, Olivier Giroud and Granit Xhaka have also returned for the Gunners, prompting even more threat in front of goal for Tottenham’s defence to deal with.
